Stoneworts : valuable for water management
In recent years, the combating of eutrophication has met with some succes. Discharge quantities have in many cases been reduced. Measures are being taken to improve the quality of the water and to restore the ecosystem occurring in it. The Veluwe Randmeren are a good example of the way lakes and pools can recover from a twenty-year ecological decline. Vegetation under water has a strong influence on the ecosystem. Birds, amphibians, fish, insects and snails benefit from the vegetation in the water, which provides food and hiding and spawning places. The vegetation is a very good indicator of the condition of a pool or lake.
