Exceptional algal blooms in Dutch North Sea waters
Increased nutrient availability has increased the risks of occurrence of exceptional algal blooms and their adverse effects. Meteorological and hydrographical conditions are further involved in determining the frequency, intensity and type of adverse eutrophication effects. Since nutrient availability in Dutch coastal waters remained rather constant and high over the last 10-15 years, the risks of adverse effects have remained unchanged.
