Trials with MAGNAVOX dGPS system, using radio beacon-datalink
The present harbour approach system is based on the Decca Navigator System, supplemented by a special developed so called Brown Pattern indicator. The working group HANAS has started an investigation into dGPS for precise positioning. This new system should use a radiobeacon for datalink purposes which is under government control and is based in IALA standards. Trials were made with a complete Magnavox dGPS system which was hired for a period of two months. The results of the trials are discussed.
