Coastal erosion by sealevel rise, methods and models ; an overview
An overview is given of literature on methods and models to predict coastal retreat by sea-level rise. Information is given on the, partly orientating, predictions and computations for Dutch situations. It is the author's impression that the most widely used concept, the Bruun rule is applied far outside the original limitations of the concept. it is questionable if a trend-analysis may be used, when a fast rise of sea level should occur. Sand budget analysis might become the basis for reasonable sound prediction although it implies a long lasting range of accurate data and a better kwowledge of the physical processes involved. International cooperation to choose, check and developed existing respectively new models is proposed.
