Characteristics and capabilities of Dutch freight transportation system models

This report is based on a FORWARD (Freight Options for Road, Waterways, and Rail for the Dutch) study performed by the European-American Center for Policy Analysis (EAC). The FORWARD project plans to use analytic tools to estimate the effects of implementing various changes to the freight transportation system. This substudy identifies the characteristics of existing Dutch freight transportation system models and some other models for which documentation was readily available. Based on these models' scope, level of detail, structure, operational characteristics, and variables, the analytic part of this report assesses the possibilities of using these models in the FORWARD project. With the existing models, most changes to the transportation system (tactics) can be related to some of their effects (impacts).
