Methods of combatting pollution resulting from chemical spills

Describes how to abate chemical spills from bulk transport. The chemicals have been divided in groups based on their physico- chemical properties. These groups are: substances forming gas and vapour clouds; substances which float on the water; substances which sink or are suspended. For the various groups the behaviour of the escaped substances is discussed, i.e. the diffusion in air; or on respectively in the water. Detection methods are suggested including their various hazards. The counter pollution methods best suitable for the various groups are discussed. Conclusions are stated and recommendations are suggested to till up the gaps mentioned.
