Round Robin Test Rolling Resistance / energy consumption

The Dutch Ministry of Traffic and Waterworks - DWW in a joint research with the German Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen (BASt)assigned M+P , the Technical University of Gdansk, Free University of Brussels and the City of Rotterdam to perform a round-robin test on measurement systems for rolling resistance of road surfaces and energy consumption of vehicles.

The rolling resistance of tyres on a road surface affects the energy consumption of vehicles. Since assesment of both quantities in situ is difficult the project was focussed on the applicability of instruments for the assesment of differences in rolling resistance and energy consumption on road surfaces. Measurements were performed on 15 road surfaces in the Netherlands and Germany in November 2004. In the report describes the measurements and a short analysis of the results. This project was part of the Dutch Innovation Program on Noise.
