The effect of wave action on the stability of channels in tidal entrances
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of wave action on the stability relationship of the cross-section of channels in the ebb tidal delta of tidal inlets with special reference to the Dutch North Sea inlets. A general discussion is presented on the overall conditions that must be met for a tidal inlet to be stable, or to be in morphologic equilibrium without the influence of wave action. The discussion is further expanded to conditions with a dominant flood flow or ebb flow and includes the effects of excessive littoral drift supply and of resultant sediment demand from the tidal basin.
