Effects of Intelligent Cruise Control on driving behaviour : a simulator study
Describes method and results of a driving simulator experiment to assess the effects of two types of Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) on driving behaviour. The two types were: one where the subject had to keep his foot on the gas pedal while ICC was activated, and one where this was not necessary. During the experiment, subjects were confronted with several scenarios, varying from normal to critical. The results show that ICC yields more consistent longitudinal control: in car-following situations, there is less variation in headway and in speed.
