Wrong-way driving : driving the wrong way on one-way roads and specifically motorway carriageways : discription of the magnitude and nature of the problem and of measures which may reduce the incidence of this phenomenon with particular reference to roads

The study begins with an analysis of wrong-way driving. The description of motorway design and potential problem areas is followed by a discussion of information obtained from the available literature. The study then considers supplementary measures which may reduce the indicence of wrong-way driving, with specific references to roads. Finally, a selection of these supplementary measures is proposd on the basic of global analysis of costeffectiviness and other factors. Fatal accidents involving wrong- way drivers account for just over 0.02% of all motorway accidents.
