Modelmate : data& model management systems (DMMS) for calamities with oil and chemicals in aquatic environment
There are many simulation models to predict the consequences that calamities with oil and chemicals have on the aquatic environment. These models are complex and continuously under development. The effort that is being made in this field is mostly concentrated on the modelling theory. Not much attention is given to: ease of use, data standardization and the possible interaction between models. As a consequence, operational use of many of these models is hardly possible and maintenance is a delicate task. It is highly desirable that such models are easily accessible and can be used in emergency situations. Therefore they must be upgraded to professional performance level. They must work in such a way that they are comparable with each other and that the best possible use is made of the same data sets. This goal can be achieved with an advanced data and model management system (DMMS) wich is given the name modelmate. This report gives a functional specification of MODELMATE, describes the function of calamity models, and gives recommendations for model development.
