The implementation of the ministerial declaration of the Second International Conference on the protection of the North Sea
At the Second International Conference on the Protection of the North Sea, London, November 1987 (Quality Status of the North Sea), the Ministers of the North Sea countries responsible for the protection of the North Sea and the Member of the Commission of the European Communities responsible for environmental protection agreed upon a number of measures to protect the North Sea environment with regard to: inputs via rivers and estuaries of substances that are persistent, toxic and liable to bioaccumulate; inputs of nutrients; inputs of pollutants via the atmosphere; dumping and incineration at sea; pollution from ships and offshore installations; radioactive discharges; cooperation on airborne surveillance; the special needs of the Wadden Sea and the enhancement of scientific knowledge and understanding. In order to prepare the Third North Sea Conference, national governments and international organisations involved in the protection of the North Sea environment prepared reports describing the progress in the implementation of the agreements of the Second North Sea Conference. This report contains a compilation of these progress reports from the North Sea states, of the Wadden Sea states, the Bonn Agreement, North Sea task force, Commission of the European Communities, Oslo Commission and Paris Commission.
