Dynamic traffic management in The Netherlands
First the Dutch policy context for dynamic traffic management (DTM) is discussed, resulting in traffic management priorities. Then the report looks at the dynamic traffic management tools: monitoring systems (motorway control and signalling system MCSS, monitoring system, emergency system), road-side systems (signalling, ramp metering, variable message signs, fog detection and warning systems, urban traffic control systems, parking management systems), incident management, priority measures, in-vehicle systems (radio traffic broadcast services, radio data system - traffic message channel RDS - TMC, dynamic route guidance and travel information systems for drivers), travel information, road pricing, and vehicle control. To reach the policy targets new technologies are considered, in this report ATT (Advanced Transport Telematics). Chapter 4 looks at the contribution dynamic traffic management makes to policy targets. The report ends with the European policy context.
