Determination of the nautical depth : a literature review

Literature study on the definition of the nautical depth when mud is present, in order to determine the best nautical depth. Special attention is paid to the best theoretical and practical criteria which can be easily used as a definition of the nautical depth. The results of model and full scale experiments to investigate the behaviour of ships in muddy areas are presented, i.e. the effects of a mudlayer on the bottom on controllability and manouvrability of a ship.
