Daytime running lights (DRL) : a master plan for an evaluation study in The Netherlands
The study on daytime running lights has been divided into a number of projects. The efficacy of the regulation must initially be proven by the number of accidents (project A). this depends on actual use of DRL (project B), which is in turn dependent on the public acceptance of DRL (project C). All three types of data (Accidents, usage and acceptance) are therefore required in order to establish with hindsight how DRL works and whether it has proved to be effective. The theory will then need to explain why DLR has been effective (project D). The project E will provide the preliminary information for projects A, B, C and G (guidance for the development of technical aids). Project H is a cost-benefit analysis and a reporting.
