Measurements on swivel expansion joints [of Bridge near Ewijk (NL)]
The ’’Herman de Man Brug“ bridge next to the town of Ewijk, The Netherlands, bridges the Highway E 50 over the river Waal (Rhein) The cable-stayed structure with a main span of 270 m and a total length of 1.055 m was opened to the traffic in 1975. In 1997, two Maurer Swivel-Joist expansion joints (SEJ) with a movement capacity of 560 mm (7 seals, south abutment) and 720 mm (9 seals, north abutment), respectively, were installed between abutments and main superstructure.
Investigation of the dynamic behaviour of the SEJ. The goal is to determine:
the eigenfrequencies of the lamella of the SEJ,the modal damping of the lamella of the SEJ,the dynamic loading factor as a function of lorry speed for the lamella of the SEJ, andthe load on the lamella of the SEJ under real traffic conditions
