Visualising opportunities for smart vehicles : description of the development of a new opportunity map for smart vehicles on Dutch motorways

The number of smart vehicles on the Dutch road network equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and offering some level of automation is steadily increasing.

As the number of smart vehicles increases, gaining insights in the role that road infrastructure plays in achieving or increasing these positive effects becomes more important. Several underlying discussions come up, like: where is the road (un)suitable for smart vehicles,
the (im)possibility to adapt roads, responsibilities of and cooperation between road authorities and of vehicle manufacturers.
