The processing part of WAQUA is based on the shallow water equations. These equations are in most cases sufficiently accurate in predicting water levels along the Dutch coastline. The North Sea and the various Dutch estuaries can be characterised by the fact that the length of the surface waves are much lager than the depth of these water areas.
