Results of the SIR-C/X-SAR 1994 campaign Test site Flevoland
During two missions of the Space Shuttle Endeavour (April and October 1994) SIR-C/X-SAR data was collected over Flevoland. The calibration accuracy, analysis with respect to agricultural fields in the beginning and the end of the growing season and the capabiblity of polarimetyric C- and L-band data for land use classification is evaluated. The SIR-C data was found accurately calibrated within 1 dB. The coefficients of the polarimetric covariance matrix are accurate within 1 dB and 5 degrees. Visual inspection of bare soil fields allows the seperation of at least three roughness classes separable by radar. Unsupervised land use classification with polarimetric C- and L-band data gives promising resultys, which however still has to be evaluated, for example by comparison with optical techniques.
