Macro and meso plastic distribution and composition in the Dutch Rhine and IJssel
The Dutch executive ministry on water management and infrastructure, Rijkswaterstaat, started a four year pending research on the plastic pollution and possible solutions in the rivers flowing through The Netherlands. This research is part of the European project ‘De Rijn Verbindt / Der Rhein Verbindet’, and has focused mainly on the rivers Rhine, Waal and Meuse.
The research presented here is part of this project and focused on the distribution and change in the composition of plastic pollution in the rivers Rhine, where it enters The Netherlands, and IJssel, where it flow out into lake IJsselmeer, in order to gain knowledge on plastic pollution in the North of The Netherlands.
