Economically optimal flooding probabilities in the Eastern Scheldt area
Protection against rising sea levels and increased river discharges is an important topic worldwide and certainly also in the Netherlands. This thesis uses a model to determine the economically optimal flooding probabilities. With this model, it is possible to take into account situations in which several dikes or dams jointly protect the hinterland against sea level rise and peak river discharges. For previous models that determine the economically optimal flood probabilities, only situations where there are no dependencies between dikes or dams could be calculated. While the dependencies between dikes and dams have been studied with this model for the Lake IJssel area, this study uses it to investigate the Eastern Scheldt area.
