Experiments on effects of algae and invertebrates on the stability of the benthic boundary layer
Two questions are investigated : the stabilizing effect of benthic diatoms and the destabilizing effect of benthic invertebrates on intertidal sediments. The changing interaction between stabilization and destabilization may be the reason why microphytobenthos is patchily distributed in the benthic boundary layer.
