Inland ship (110 m): CFD calculations 2020 : Numerical prediction of hull forces and validation

By contract no. 31159000 dated 23 April 2020, Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) and the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) agreed to extend last year’s joint research project on shallow water effects for the coming three years.
This study aims at developing simulation models to investigate the effect of shallow water conditions on manoeuvring of inland vessels. This includes the prediction of squat motion and manoeuvring performance of inland ships in rivers and confined water with small under-keel clearance. With these models it is aimed to review and refine the current guidelines for fairway dimensions on channels and rivers.
