Evaluation of intelligent transport systems in The Netherlands
In The Netherlands, the use of intelligent transport systems (ITS) is well accepted in transport policy and is implemented on a large scale. With ramp metering and cross-border management, a lot of information about the local effects of traffic management measures is available. However, most information is not really structured, due to a lack of an integrated guideline, wich covers all aspects of evaluations. Guidelines on certain aspects are available and a project is started to integrate them. By using the structural approach described in guidelines, evaluation studies should become more comparable with each other, which is necessary to measure the effects of a certain policy and to maintain it. In this way effective, operational dynamic traffic management is within reach, not only on a national, but also on a Euroean level.
