A new mix design method based on a volumetric approach
An experimental method, based on a volumetric approach, was developed for mix design of a crushed stone asphalt concrete with recycling of 40% polymer modified porous asphalt granulate. The basic principle of this method is based on the degree of filling of the voids of the stone-sand skeleton by the mastic. An important part of this new mix design method was to determine the compactability and the mechanical properties. The reference density of the mix for field compaction was determined by gyratory compaction. The mix was applied in a test section. The quality control of the mix was performed by determining the compactability, the composition and the mechanical properties of the applied mix. The developed volumetric mix design method looks promising for designing durable crushed stone asphalt concrete mixes with excellent permanent deformation and fatigue properties.
