Distribution in time and space of fresh water and suspended matter in the Dutch coastal zone : a quantitative analysis of waterquality
During a measuring campaign from 1986 to 1990 the North Sea Directorate (= Directie Noordzee) executed salinity and temperature measurements in the Dutch coastal zone. On the basis of the results of these measurements, the climatology of the density distribution in this zone is analyzed and presented in this report. After a review of the measuring campaign, and a presentation of the analysis techniques, the results and analysis of the time series of salinity, temperature, density and the stratification parameter, averaged over the transects Noordwijk and Terheijde, are presented. Then the suspended matter data are presented, including an interpretation. The data from another campain (EUZOUT) are used to validate the turbidity method.
