Integration of national highways into urban areas : a scouting study with reference to the Leidsche Rijn Master Plan
Under the chairmanship of Mr L. ten Haaf, the Rijkswaterstaat Building Inspectorate organized four brainstorming sessions for purpose of generating options for the integration of national highways into urban areas. The reason for organizing the brainstorming sessions was the Leidsche Rijn (Utrecht) urban development plan, whereby the A2 national highway will be incorporated into an urban environment over a length of about two kilometres. Describes the results of the brainstorming sessions and subsequent more detailed analysis. First of all there is a broad-brush analysis of the problems which arise as a result of a national highway in an urban environment. The report then goes on to address five basic concepts of the road design of the national highway.
