Identification of geochemical tracers for sediment sources and transport in the North Sea : phase 1: comparison of EXPMA and XRF data and mineralogy of 12 cores from the Netherlands continental flat
Information on sources and transport pathways of sand and mud in the Southern North Sea is of relevance for the understanding of the fate of contaminants, as well as of the dynamics of the sediments itself as a result of man-induced or clmatological changes of the marine environment. For this reason, the RIfKZ initiated tentative research to investigate whether the chemical composition of sand and mud particles in sediment cores from the Dutch Continental Flat can be used as a tracer for the sources of these particles.
