Bowthruster-induced damage
Due to the increasing size and use of bowthrusters installed in vessels, Delft University of Technology carries out research to investigate the possible effects of this rather unknown phenomenon. This research includes experimental tests as well as field research. For this thesis , two different investigations have been carried out: 1. The stability of stones in propeller-included jet wash on a slope was investigated using an experimental model. This was done at Delft University of Technology. 2. The scour effects of bow- and mainthrusters in Dutch inland waterways were investigated in a case study in the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal, a 70 kilometre long channel leading from Amsterdam to Tiel.
