Probabilistic admittance policy Euro-Maas Channel
The admittance policy at the harbour of Rotterdam uses a probabilistic calculation method to take advantage of the tide, using the computer program HARAP (HARbour APproach). Astronomical and meteorological effects, waves and different vessel types are taken into account. Using an updated technique, the accessibility of the harbour and the safety during the channel transit has been increased, without additional dredging costs. Future developments include usage of a neural network for more exactly determining the current. Also calculations for individual ships instead of using a mean value for a group of ships, to gain accuracy, are being prepared.
