State-of-the-art wegwijs : a plan for dynamic travel information for drivers

Information is becoming an increasingly important element in traffic management and traffic control tools. The possibilities for a pilot scheme with a dynamic travel information system in a city and its surroundings have been investigated. Several studies have been performed in this scope. The results are presented in this paper together with the plan for implementation. The emphasis will be put on the functions parking guidance and public transport information. The system is called Wegwijs. Its effects will be evaluated during the pilot scheme. After evaluating the pilot and if results are positive, it is intended in a next phase to extend this system on the Dutch motorway network with the objective of benefiting from its advantages on a larger scale and to increasing market penetration.
