Compaction of sandy soils, and its influences on the growth and distribution of bean roots

This study intended to simulate some field conditions in a laboratory experiment. Loosened sands, one of a fairly coarse texture, and the other of a fairly fine texture have been subjected to fluctuation of the ground water table, to forces of weight and vibration under two different moisture contents and to irrigation. The reaction of plant roots to the obtained differentsoil densities has been examined in the greenhouse, and as far as possible also in the field.
