Reproduction of the flounder, Platichthys flesus (L.), in relation to environmental pollution : steroids and vitellogenesis = De voortplanting van de bot, Platichthys flesus (L), in relatie tot milieu-vervuiling : steroïden en dooiervorming
Chemical pollution, of which the composition and concentrations of the individual contaminants represent the situation in some areas of the Dutch coastal and inland waters, may influence the normal reproductive cycle of fish. In the flounder, testicular development seemed not to be affected but sublethal pollution induced an asynchrony in ovarian development. This was accompanied by premature vitellogenin production. The reproductive success of the flounder may be reduced.
