Waterschip ZN 42!: a clenched-lap fishing vessel from Flevoland, the Netherlands

The wreck considered in this study, consists of the remains of a type of fishing vessel, generally identified as waterschip (watership). The wreck was designated ZN 42!, after the agricultural lot where it was found. The building of the ship (dendrchronologically) dates to 1527-1531 AD, the wreckage of the ship probably dates to the middle/third quarter of the sixteenth century. The ZN 42! is compared to a similar, but carvel built waterschip, the OW 10, which it probably predates by only 15-20 years. This allows for a study of the development of a specific shiptype, at a moment when Dutch shipbuilding in general shows a shift overlap to carvel building.
