Changes in traffic and transportation patterns in Denmark in a time of economic recession
The Netherlands, like other countries, is experiencing a period of recession which is in sharp contrast to the decade of the sixties and early part of the seventies who were characterised by economic growth. In search of means of improving understanding of possible adaptions in travel behavior, interest has turned towards the possibility of learning from experiences in other countries. The choice has fallen on Denmark. The objectives were confined firstly to investigate how the Danes are adapting their travel behavior in a period of economic recession and secondly to look at whether those developments can be related to falling household incomes. It was hoped, that for Dutch purposes, this would demonstrate likely ranges of behavioral changes.
