Issues in the pre-analysis of panel data

The main subject of this paper is to give an objective discussion of a series of issues that precede the analysis of longitudinal data and which are critical to the success of any models estimated on such data. the principles outlined are applicable to the wider set of panel surveys, including the travel diary specification adopted by the Dutch Mobility Panel and the Cardiff Consumer Panel.
