Exercise classification
When a chemical spillage occurs it is important to be familiar with the physical and chemical properties of the substance together with the danger aspects in case the chemicals are released into the sea. By dividing the chemicals in different classes it should be possible to develop more appropriate response methods and get a better understanding of the danger aspects in the marine environment. A relation exists between the physical properties on the one hand and the hazards on the other hand such as: hazards to human health (toxic, explosive and flammable); hazards to the marine environment . The exercises described in this report demonstrate this.
