  2. Stimulating bicycle use by companies

Stimulating bicycle use by companies

One of the goals of the transport and traffic policy in The Netherlands is reducing car use. This policy is being implemented now and, among others, companies are expected to take initiatives to influence commuter travel behaviour. Employers exert themselves to stimulate their employees to more frequently choose for other modes. The bicycle is a powerful alternative for a number of car trips. Companies have taken a variety of measures to stimulate bicycle use during the last years. Possible measures in this field are presented. The results of the introduction of measures at some companies on shifts in bicycle use (and use of other modes) are shown. Bicycle stimulating measures turn out to be powerful if they are combined with other measures within a package.
