Deals with the topographic mapping capabilities of imagery from the SPOT satellite (Système Probatoire d'Observation de la Terre). An important feature of the SPOT satellite is that the imaging instruments are not only capable of vertical viewing but that they can be tilted out of the Madir position. The main goal of research was to realize an operational environmental able of stereo plotting from SPOT imagery and to investigate to what extent SPOT imagey can compete with aerial photography for topographic mapping purposes at scale 1: 50.000. SPOT images are formed by assembling of 6000 consecutive scanlines. As SPOT is not the only operating space born system capable of topographic mapping, there is given an overview of other high resolution Earth observing systems. From the technical point of view SPOT model is above mentioued scale. From the financial point of view SPOT will many times lead to substantial savings Ends with summing up all main conclusions and giving recommendations for further research into the subject of topographic mapping from SPOT satellite imagery.
