The Methylene Blue Adsorption test applied to Geomaterials
An overview is given of the methylene blue adsorption test (MBA) used to obtain information on the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of clay minerals. The survey has shown that the MBA-method is a very useful aid in the study of geotechnical properties of geomaterials. The MBA test gives direct information of the acitivity of clays present in the soil or rock. The experience of LCPC (Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées) shows that MBA can reliably and comfortably be used for geotechnical classification of soils. Also in the study of rock intended for construction purposes MB is very valuable.
