Environmental effects of offshore mining discharges : an overview of results of monitoring studies and aerial surveillance in the vicinity of offshore drilling sites in the North Sea 1985-1991
This document deals with the effects of oil based mud (OBM) drill cuttings (field-, boxcosm- and laboratory studies; bioassays): hydrography, oil in sediment and background levels; macrobenthos (sensitive/indicator/testspecies); oil in seawater, using mussels as bioindicator; fish tainting; uptake of base oil by fish. Effects related to water based muds (WBM) and heavy metals, production water, oil films and flaring (aerial surveillance studies) are also addressed.
