Different paths to 2050 : implications for traffic growth
Describes an experiment in long range forecasting that has been undertaken at the request of the Dienst Verkeerskunde van Rijkswaterstaat, in connection with the Nederland Nu Als Ontwerp (NNAO) project. Forecasting models developed for long-range planning of highway and rail networks have been used in conjunction with data describing possible living conditions under four widely varying scenarios, to explore the potential consequences for travel demand in the year 2050. The results offer some insights into travel behaviour under extreme assumptions concerning travel conditions and population development.
