Assessment practices and environmental status to transboundary rivers in Europe
Main interest of the study was a thorough interpretation of the present environment status of the river basin in each country, taking into account the applied assessment criteria, and an analysis of the differences in interpretation of the environmental quality as a result of the application of different monitoring and assessment methods. The following 10 rivers were chosen to be included in the study: Rhine, Meuse, Tagus, Elbe, Oder, Danube, Morava, Tisza, Dvina and Bug. The rivers were selected on the basis of criteria such as rivers having an international river commission secretariat, major rivers from the viewpoint of the size of the river, regionally spread over Europe.
