Wave data assimilation in a 3rd generation wave prediction model for the North Sea : an optimal control approach

Data- assimilation is the use of observations to correct a numerical simulation of a process. An algorithm has been developed for assimilation of wave- and wind data in the 3rd generation numerical wave prediction model WAM, with the purpose to make effective use of data from ERS-1 and other satellites to improve wave prediction.
