Explanation to the vegetation map of the Romanian Danube delta biosphere reserve 1:100000

The natural marsh vegetations and aquatic vegetations were mapped at a 1:100000 scale over circa 230900 ha in the Danube Delta, Romania. The aim of the work was the production of a map showing vegetation features that are relevant for nature conservation and for sustainable use (mainly reed harvest). The mapped area consists of the following vegetations: 2900 ha aquatic vegetations, 180500 ha marsh, 13400 ha saline vegetations, 8100 ha sandy steppe grassland, 8000 ha river levee pasture, 2400 ha bush vegetations, 13800 ha river levee forest and 1800 ha dune forest. Harvestable reed vegetations cover circa 70900 ha, of which circa 9800 ha is high-quality thatching reed.
